“The Phantom of the opera”: I could write a review only by naming its title. Universal synonym of unforgettable music, powerful lyrics, moving story, majestic scenography, amazing costumes and technical magic on the stage.
The Rossetti theatre of Trieste in Italy and Broadway Italia found the way to realise a dream kept in the heart of everyone that is into musicals: the honor to see for the very first time “The Phantom of the opera”, in the country that is considered to be the cradle of beauty and culture, Italy.
Feeling as if I were on Broadway or on the West End, simply driving for 15 minutes in my own city, Trieste, was surreal and magic. I sat in the stalls with a fast heartbeat for the emotion but I couldn’t even imagine the real show would have exceeded my high expectations.
It’s so difficult to find the right words to describe this masterpiece of art and beauty, even though in a language that is not my own language.
I hope that whoever is reading these lines felt once in his/her life that breathtaking emotion in front of a masterpiece, the impelling need to cry because of an unimaginable beauty, getting a thrill feeling the power of human creativity.
If you know what I’m talking about, I can assure you that you will feel the same overwhelming sensation in the Rossetti theatre in Trieste until 16th of July.
This musical will live forever in the underground tunnels of my heart as an “Angel of music”, hidden in my memories, ready to whisper “Think of me”.
There aren’t enough words to pay tribute to this extraordinary production: performers caressed me through their celestial voices, the scenography left me speechless and the music played on the keys of my soul.
Ramin Karimloo is The Phantom: charisma, powerful voice, magnetism, the human incarnation of the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. His performance of “Music of the night” is simply astonishing.
Amelia Milo is a great surprise. Her debut as Christine Daaé, one of the most difficult roles for a feminine singer, has been really successful.
Bradley Jaden as Raoul embraces our hearts, we can really feel the struggle of this man in love, ready to face any challenges to free his Christine. Also Anna Corvino deserves a mention for her performance as Carlotta Giudicelli, simply perfect.
I feel proud of my city and of the incredible artistic project of Rossetti theatre. I feel lucky to live in the first italian city to welcome this international masterpiece, I have been part of an unprecedented event.
