Immaginate la scena : Adele sul palco. Tocca a lei iniziare la 59esima edizione dei Grammy Awards, gli Oscar della musica, allo Staples Center di Los Angeles.
E’ previsto un omaggio a George Michael ma la cantante, dopo un’imprecisione iniziale di Fastlove interrompe tutto dicendo :
Scusate, non posso fare come l’anno scorso. Scusate se sto sudando. Non posso andare avanti, per rispetto nei confronti di George Michael. Ricominciamo.
Un anno fa la stessa Adele aveva avuto dei problemi tecnici causati da un microfono difettoso e non si era voluta fermare. Questa volta l’ha fatto ed è stata premiata con un lungo applauso e una standing ovation.
E sarà proprio Adele la trionfatrice della serata con 5 Grammy : Best Record of the Year, Best Song of the Year e
Best Pop Solo Performance per Hello, Best Album of the Year e Best Pop Vocal Album per 25 (Greg Kurstin, il suo produttore, e’ stato inoltre premiato come Producer of the Year, Non-Classical).
Ma Adele, al momento del ritiro di uno dei grammofonini d’oro ha voluto rendere omaggio a Beyoncé, sua eterna rivale:
Il tuo album, Lemonade, e’ semplicemente monumentale
Beyoncé esce sconfitta dalla giuria fermandosi a due Grammy (Best Music Video per Formation e Best Urban Contemporary Album per Lemonade) ma la sua performance ha lasciato senza dubbio il segno.
Beyoncè per la prima volta ha mostrato il pancione in pubblico (sarà presto mamma di due gemelli) indossando un abito dorato e cantando Love drought e Sandcastle dando vita a una performance di altissimo profilo.
Seduto il prima fila il marito Jay-Z che l’ha applaudita per tutta la serata mettendo a tacere tutti coloro che parlavano di una imminente crisi coniugale.
Gli omaggi
Anche in questa edizione non potevano mancare gli omaggi ed i tributi, da George Michael a Prince con Bruno Mars ed i Time che hanno cantato Jungle Love, The Bird e Let’s Go Crazy.
Demi Lovato si è esibita per celebrare il quarantennale di Saturday Night Fever dei Bee Gees mentre John Legend si è esibito al piano per ricordare le tante star del mondo della musica scomparse nel 2016.
Lady Gaga, reduce dal successo nell’half time del Super Bowl, ha duettato sul palco con i Metallica ma un problema tecnico ha fatto infuriare il chitarrista James Hetfield, che dietro le quinte ha gettato via la chitarra.
Nessun premio per l’Italia.
Nella categoria Best Latin Album Laura Pausini è stata sconfitta da Jesse & Joy.
Nella categoria traditional pop vocal album Willie Nelson ha battuto Andrea Bocelli.
Ad Ennio Morricone non sono bastate le due candidature per la Migliore Colonna Sonora con The Hateful Eight di Quentin Tarantino e per la Migliore Composizione Classica con L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock, sempre dal film The Hateful Eight.
Torna a mani vuote anche l’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, che era candidata per Verismo nella categoria Best Classical Solo Vocal Album.
